QUEENMAKER | CHAPTER 10
---
pairing chan x reader
genre ninth member au, enemies to lovers, angst, fluff, coming of age, social media, cancel culture, anxiety, depression, forbidden love,
summary To JYPE, the solution is simple; take the sole trainee that will not debut with your brand new girl group, and use her to replace the missing vocalist in your male group that insisted on starting as nine.
Unfortunately, to the fans and the members themselves, it isn't that simple.

The studio is silent when you enter, the door clicking softly shut behind you. Neither of its occupants stir, even though Chan had just called out for you to come in when you'd knocked; he's staring at his computer screen now, fingers hovering over a keyboard as he listens. Han is on the other side of the room, fast asleep on the sofa with him mouth hanging half-open.
A coffee cup sits in the ground next to him and his phone dangles from relaxed fingers, dangerously close to falling. You lean over and grab it just as it starts to slide from his grasp; Han doesn't stir, not even when your shadow falls over his face. You catch a glimpse of his phone screen before your thumb locks it, long lines of lyrics set out in a basic notes app, the top bar lined with notifications; you put it down hurriedly on the armrest of the sofa, not wanting to pry.
When you look up, Chan is watching you, an unreadable expression on his face.
"Hi," you say, turning your back on Han. Your hands are awkward after touching his phone - you fold them in front of you, one hand twisting at the fingers of the other.
"Hi," he replies softly, and smiles - something that's meant to be encouraging, you think, but this is so far out of your normal routine that you don't think there's anything that would let you just relax, rather than standing here awkwardly in the middle of the room with nothing else around to draw his attention.
"There's another chair over there," he says, pointing to the corner behind you. "Come and listen to this."
A clear goal. An easy one to achieve too - the breath rushes from your chest as you drag the chair over to his desk, some of the tension in your limbs draining out with it. You sigh again as you sit down, this time as your tired body presses back into the seat and finally finds relief - you've been engrossed in practise all day, sliding right past lunch and nearly dinner too, barely stopping for a break. Not that you'd meant to, you knew better than that, but when you'd felt like you were actually getting somewhere-
"You look tired," Chan comments as he hands you a set of headphones, one hand idly untangling the wire as it stretches out to you. His voice is decidedly neutral, his tongue lazy as it lets the English syllables slide past one by one. He talks to you in English almost all the time recently, you've noticed; ever since the album released, or maybe a little before. Not that you mind. English is...comfortable, in a way that Korean sometimes isn't. It's always been easier for you to be Australian.
"Practise was good today, though," you reply. "I feel like I might actually be able to dance in the group without sticking out now."
"You've been doing that for a while," Chan says, bemused. "Lee Know didn't have anything to say at all the other day."
You can't help the derisive snort that escapes your mouth, swallowing the acerbic laugh that tries to follow it before you can make even more of a fool of yourself. It's so rude; maybe you are tired. You certainly aren't as careful as you usually are, even though you know that can preclude trouble. "I don't think he's being as hard now that I'm not debuting in two weeks," you blurt out, and then drop your eyes down to the headphones in your hands.
"That doesn't mean he's lying," Chan insists. His hand pats your knee - just a brush of his fingers, there and there and gone again. "You don't really need all this practise anymore, you know."
A shrug works its way up to your shoulders, though it feels more like a defensive hunch than anything else. "I'd rather practise than waste my time sitting around," you answer, and at least the words are strong, even if your body is not. "Especially when there's still a chance I could end up sitting around in Australia by the end of the year."
Something flashes across Chan's face, twisting at the edges of his mouth for just a moment before disappearing - disappointment, or frustration? It twists at your gut twice as hard, whatever it is, upsetting the delicate balance you'd found for just a moment while sitting here. "Do you want to listen to this song?" he asks, changing the subject before you can say anything to defend yourself. "We recorded it roughly, but I need a real version of it, and I think you'll like it..."
His voice trails off as he turns to the computer, pulling up whatever he's been working on. You take that as a sign to pull the headphones over your ears, offsetting one side slightly so that you can still hear him. Music fills your ears - a slow, roundabout beat and a heavy bass, overstrung by lyrics about bravery and fear and the darkness of being alone. Beautiful, in a way you're not sure how to express, and artistic, winding its way into your chest where you won't easily forget it.
You really like this song, so much that you're almost afraid to admit it; because if you did, you'd have to admit too, how its spiralling beat brushes against that dark spiral of anxiety that always lives in your chest, and the cold memories that the words stir up-
"I like that," is all you say when the music ends, one final downbeat cutting through the instruments abruptly.
"Really?" Chan asks, like it's unexpected, or unbelieveable.
"Of course," you insist, headphones sliding down around your neck. "You really want me to sing that?"
"Well, if you're going to spend all of your time working anyway, you might as well do some of our work for us," he says, the tone of his voice and the way his head tilts to point at Han's sleeping form informing you that he is joking. "Listen to it a couple more times, I'll see if Han has the lyrics written down on his phone, and then we'll try it."
"Why wouldn't you be able to sleep?"
Chan's voice startles you, loud after a long period of silence. You hadn't even seen him turn to look at you, or even stop working to check the messages that are popping up in the group chat, his phone propped loosely between his hand and the table. "What?" you ask, one hand coming up to stifle a yawn as it tugs at your jaw.
Chan glances down at his phone screen as another message pops up, and then back at you. "Earlier, you said you wouldn't be able to sleep if you went home," he says, by way of explanation.
"Oh, right." You'd forgotten about that text. You hadn't really thought about it being something that might raise questions at the time; you'd been more focused on the sudden worry you'd had over him assuming that you were regularly here all day and all night. "My house is just too quiet sometimes, I guess. I'm not really used to living alone."
His head tilts, curiousity flaring in his eyes. "You know, I've never actually asked where you live," he says. "Are you still in the dorms?"
"They gave me an apartment," you answer. "I think we're in the same building, actually. That's what they told me, anyway."
"Really?" His eyebrows shoot upwards in surprise. "And you've never come over for dinner? Changbin hasn't dragged you to the gym? No one's run into you in the hall?"
"Lee Know sat in my living room for like ten minutes once?" you offer weakly, though you know it's not nearly what he's looking for. You've got nothing to offer him - even Minseo hasn't been over in a few weeks, each of you too busy on your own trajectory to cross paths. You'd had lunch in the cafeteria twice, and that was all, far from the silent walls of your empty house and it's too-big rooms.
A smile ghosts across Chan's face, strangled by the constant turn of his thoughts back to the problem he thinks he has identified. "On his way back from the store?" he questions knowingly, and you nod.
"He said no one was home at your place."
"If he went into our house, why did he-" he starts, and then cuts himself off halfway, shaking his head. "You should come over for dinner or something. Watch one of Han's animes. If I'd known you were in the building, I would have invited you ages ago."
Apprehension rises in your chest at the openness of the invitation, the way he's able to simply pick it up and throw it out there without even a moment of hesitation. Not that you should feel dread over something as simple as an invitation to dinner, with a group of people you now see every day anyway...but you've never really seen them outside the studio, and you wouldn't know what to expect even if you sat here and tried to guess.
And even this, sitting here in the dark talking to Chan, is something you've never done before, the reason why you'd sat here so quiet when you'd first come in; if your body wasn't so tired, if the night wasn't dragging on into morning as you spoke, you don't think you'd have been able to sit so still in this chair at all.
"Maybe," you say, acknowledging the invitation with a dip of your chin. "When there's time. I'm really busy practising for debut right now, and I don't want to miss anything."
You're surprised by the look that passes over his face, the tightening of his mouth and the corners of his eyes. "You spend a lot of time in that studio," he says - and you're not sure what to think about the tone of voice that he uses, switching back and forth between stern and...soft, like he's worried he'll say the wrong thing or something. As if he could do something wrong here, when he is the leader and you are-
Well, nothing. You're nothing. God knows what he sees when he looks at you, other than the trainee he was unwillingly saddled with.
"Yeah," you acknowledge, because there's no use in denying it when you know they know the kind of hours you've been pulling. There being eight of them just means it's impossible to avoid running into one of them at every strange hour of the day. "If these are the last three months I have here, I don't want to waste any of it."
"You said that at the concert," Chan recalls. "You still feel like you're not going to debut?"
The memory sits awkwardly in the air of the room; you shift in your seat, shrugging as lightly as you can pull down the movement of your shoulders, trying to play it off. "Do you still think I'm scared of you too?" you question, trying to play it off easily rather than having the words slide heavy from your tongue.
Amusement dances in his eyes. "Maybe not so much," he answers. "You made a joke earlier."
You frown. "Is that...weird? I make jokes all the time, don't I?"
"Not as often as I'd like," he says, and then his face softens. "It was nice, though. So is this - us, talking."
"Mm," you hum, your mouth closed around several sentences that spring immediately to mind. The instinct to measure everything you say and watch your mouth is burnt into you, caution wrapping its cold little hands around your throat every time you start to relax. And now you don't know what to say, when it feels too pointed to make a joke after he's just pointed it out, and too crass to pull out excuses for why this sort of one-on-one rarely happens - and then silence stretches too thin, and time ticks too far onwards, and you've missed-
"Can I tell you what I think?" Chan says and leans back, his arms reaching towards the ceiling as he stretches.
A breath hitches in your chest, apprehension freezing it still. "Okay," you say, your hands twisting together.
His gaze is steady when it returns to you, his hand still where it comes to lie flat on the surface of his desk. In the background, Han shifts in his sleep, the couch cushions shifting underneath him. "I think you're scared to be one of us," he says, every word carefully measured against some weight you cannot see. "And you're scared to trust us. Maybe just me, specifically."
Your heart leaps into your throat in surprise, tears pricking at the back of your eyes. "I'm not-" you begin, but his hand lifts in the air, stopping you short.
"I don't mean in a bad way," he hurries to add, before you can go on. "I understand why; I wouldn't trust anyone either after what happened to you with Midnight. And I've been there before, you know, so...so I know why, I promise. But...I wish you would let me help you. I really want to help you."
You swallow hard, but the lump in your throat remains, the tears threatening to gather in the corners of your stinging eyes. Your stomach feels like its been turned upside down, your equilibrium shaken and turned around. "I..." you begin, as if you have a response, but nothing follows it, your mind racing to catch up in a conversation you hadn't expected to have and didn't plan for. "I...this is my last chance. If I stop, if I..."
"Hey," Chan says. "I understand, okay? And I'm not going to kick you out, or yell at you, or whatever it is you think a leader does. I like having you around, it's too late for all of that now, okay?"
The joke is light, struggling to lift itself in the oppressive air of the studio, but it makes its way to you anyway, lifting a little of the weight off of your shoulders. "I really like your music," you tell him, and push a deep breath down into the bottom of your lungs. "I want to be one of you, really, and I don't - I don't think you would do that, I swear, I just...I know that it's not always up to you. The company can do what they like, and if they think I don't look like I fit in, or I'm not working as hard as you do, or they just don't like how-"
"You shouldn't worry about that," Chan says over the top of you, his face changing. "That's my job - you leave that to me, and focus on the things your working on."
You look down at your hands, then over at Han - anywhere but his gaze, when you say, "I can't trust them to listen to you. Not until I make it to debut."
Chan falls silent, long enough that your eyes stray back to him, unable to look away for any longer. You find a mess of emotions written across his face, lit by the illumination of his computer screen as he messes with the mouse, his attention far away from the track he's idly playing with.
"Okay," he says when he's done, forcing his hand to move away from the keyboard. "I meant to talk you out of burning yourself out, but I don't think that's going to work."
"Sorry," you say mutely, and feel your shoulders hunch.
"It's okay," he says, before you can retract into yourself completely. "It's okay to be scared. It is scary. So, let's come to an agreement."
There's an unintended challenge in his voice, a way that his eyes watch you that incentivises you to sit up straighter and swallow down all that cold anxiety that freezes in your veins. "Okay," you say willingly. "Like what?"
You like the silent approval you see in his face, the way his mouth relaxes and starts to untwist from the frown it had turned itself into several minutes ago. "You promise me that you know how to take care of yourself, and you can practise as much as you feel like you need to until debut and we won't stop you," he says, "but after debut, you promise you're going to slow down. And you're going to trust me."
It's funny - you hadn't thought anything but the result at the end of these three months would make you feel better, but somehow, he strings together the exact right words to lift that weight off your chest and shine a light down the tunnel. You hadn't thought anyone would be able to do that. Maybe that's why you'd been locked away in the dance rooms, all alone; maybe he was right that you didn't trust anyone, and that maybe you should start.
"I can do that," you say, nodding in agreement. "And I can take care of myself. I won't debut if I'm injured, or I collapse or something."
"Good," he says, satisfied, and then adds, "And you come over for dinner, whenever we invite you. And you go out with your friends again. One of the girls from Midnight chased me down the other day to ask about you, and honestly I'm kind of scared of ignoring her."
"Minseo," you say and, inexplicably, you smile. "Sorry. She's...an extrovert."
"Two jokes," Chan points out, and then laughs at the look on your face, turning away to shut down his computer. "It was fine. She was cool. You have good taste in friends."
"We've been here together for a long time," you say, your eyes idly tracking the movement of his mouse. You glance at the clock in the corner of his screen just by chance - and then do a double take when you see the number there, squinting as if you've misread it. "Is it four AM?"
"It is, actually," Chan sighs as the screen goes dark, closing the laptop and pushing his chair back towards the couch. "Time to go home, I think. Do you want to walk with us?"
His hand reaches out to rouse Han, the other reaching for the boy's phone, left abandoned on his desk. His coffee still sits abandoned on the ground, long gone cold since that first conversation in the group chat that had led to all of this. Funny, how that one little thing, left forgotten on the floor, had led to a night you wouldn't soon forget.
"I'd love to," you reply, and reach for the coffee before anyone can knock it over, throwing it in the trash.

Digital art done without a tablet (art progress)
July -> September
thought I'd share this comparison cos I feel like it really shows how I've improved in the few short months I've been doing digital art without a tablet!
also figured this might be a good time to talk about my process with digital art at the mo, which might be helpful to anyone who hasn't got a graphics tablet of some kind lol?
with both of these I started the drawing in my phone's notes app (I did briefly try another app on my phone but I found it wasn't as easy to use as the notes app... I might try looking for other drawing apps though so if I find a good one I may make a post about it lol) before transferring that file to my usual art program (which is FireAlpaca, in case you didn't know!)
I have to scale up the image at this point which does make the line art look pixelated, though I don't dislike it as I think it can help give it a pencil-like quality! it's not ideal if you want to create neat and smooth lines, though, so bear that in mind!
I then make the sketch background transparent (make sure to draw on either a white or light grey background otherwise this can be tricky to do!) so I can add the paint layer behind the drawing. I also sometimes add the paint layer directly onto the sketch layer if I don't want the sketch to be in the final piece (this is no different from the way I paint digitally with a tablet, though, so I won't go into great detail here)
I paint with just my mouse (specially my laptop's mousepad, rather than a separate mouse btw) which yes, before you ask, is a very tedious process lol! it takes a lot to learn how to control the mouse, and I definitely haven't mastered it yet, but like all art related things, it just takes practise!! I will say that I have yet to figure out how to do really blended paintings with just my mouse, but for the more painterly style I've been doing recently, using the mouse works a treat!
another note is that you can't really get pressure effects when drawing with your mouse or finger (which is effectively where the harder you press, the thicker and/or darker the line is), but I've just been working around it since the very first digital artworks I ever did had no pressure opacity to them lol...
idk tbh this whole thing is a learning process for me which is simultaneously frustrating and very exciting, and I look forward to seeing how I progress in another few months lol!
...
finally, I thought I'd share this drawing from 2013 I did drawing with just my mouse and a comparison to one I did recently too! I didn't use a reference with either so it's a kinda janky looking eye, but I like to think I've made some sort of improvement in these 10 years lol
#art advice#artists on tumblr#digital art#no tablet digital art#phone art#art improvement#art progress#i'm honestly really proud with what i've been able to produce even without a tablet!#i dont know whether i'll go long term w/o one since it is frustrating at times#but for now i'm really enjoying doing art this way!#i hope y'all agree lol??

Hello! Can I ask what app you use to draw and what device you draw on? I wanna practise digital art but I’m having trouble due to me not being able to draw on my phone right lol. And me always making the limbs and poses wrong.
hi hi!!
I draw using procreate and an iPad (6th gen) - up until a week ago I would just use my finger to draw but I did get an iPad pen (not an apple one cuz those don’t work for my iPad lol got a cheaper one from Amazon) a nice alternative to procreate that I used to use was ibispaint x and it’s also nice that there’s a lot of free brushes for the app ( seriously TikTok has so many nice free brushes I wish I still used ibis just for those lol )
drawing definitely takes a lot of practice, for poses, always try to use a reference cuz those do help a lot! A nice piece of advice I got is While looking at a reference try to simplify the pose into the base shapes- YouTube also has a bunch of free anatomy videos that are really useful
you don’t really need anything fancy or expensive to draw, just anything that works lol
Also! You don’t have to be perfect from the start- I barely know anything about anatomy tbh I just go with whatever feels right lol- being happy with your art takes time and practice! Never give up, you will get better with time!
hope this is helpful! Sorry im not the best at giving advice lol

I really love your animation! I was wondering what program you use and if you have any tips?
Hey! Thank you and also thank you for your question!
I use Firealpaca for making the art for the animations and then I cut it together with the sound in a video editor. Next to a video editor I sometimes also use flipaclip to check if the animation is going smooth enough or should I fix something.
Planning is a big part for doing an animation, first of all do a little animatic kind of thing so you can play around with the idea you have in mind. The frames you drew for this kind of animatic can be good for keyframes for your animation too (keyframes are basicaly the main poses of how your character will move from A to B), and then you start to draw little movements between the key frames.
It's also important to know if you want your animation to move a little bit slower like when your character just starts moving to draw more and more frames/little movements so your animation will go smoother and if you want something to move faster you draw less frames (It's also really useful if you draw the frames with different colors, so you can better see what's going on and you won't get crazy by not knowing what is what)
Also when I do the face mimics I usually try to do the same with my own face, so I can imagine how would that look like on the actual animation xd So using references is also important when you're doing an animation! (Especially when you animate a difficult movement and real life references are really useful)
Since I'm mostly working in a simple drawing program lip syncing would be really hard to do without actually seeing how the movements matches with the sound so I also use flipaclip for that to see how the lip sync works so I can plant it into the actual animation, and check it later if everything looks fine (I just wanted to mention this part because if you do an animation for a sound where there's talking in it and you don't have any actual animation programs it can be really useful to see how other ways you can make your characters talk which also matches to the sound)
I could talk about animation a lot more and all day, but I don't want this answer to be too long to read xd There are lots of great tutorials on youtube where people can explain better how to animate, and also seeing a visual explanation through a video can help understand the things a lot better too! And also if you study how other animators do their animations! I also kind of learned how to animate by studying other people's animation styles (like in warriors cats maps, or in animation memes)
But someone can learn the most when they try it out themselves, so don't be afraid to experience and play around by doing small animations (Flipaclip is a really great app for that if you want to animate on phone/tablet) and you're gonna be better and better by practising and studying it more and more just like when you do simple artworks!
If you want any drawing programs where you can also animate in I can mention: Krita, Photoshop, Clipstudio Paint and I also want to mention TV Paint too. (I only tried Photoshop and TV Paint to animate and they're both really good for animations - I actually tried Krita too, but I didn't really like it so I didn't really get into using that)

Art of whatever intensity and skill level has value. Scrappy little doodles, basic linearts, blocky colored in sketches, half-finished works, ect.
Art does not have to make you bleed effort to have value in its most intrinsic form. If you created it, it has value. If you enjoyed making it, it has value. If you made it for someone else, it has value. If it was worthwhile as practise or for passing the time, it has value.
The opposing view, especially in fandom spaces, is so toxic. Yes, it may not be aesthetic. No it might not get hundreds of thousands of notes. But inherently neither of those things matter. Like, at all.
I can't tell you how many comments I, as an author, have received along the lines of 'I wish I could make fanart for this but I'm not good at drawing' or something similar, and I equally can't tell you how fucking little your skill level, art style or effort matters to me when you're taking the time to create something based off my creation because you found that much enjoyment or inspiration from it.
Do the shitty little doodle in your phone's notes app. Take that half-nubbed pencil you've had for five years and doodle on that stained napkin. Buy that crappy set of $5 acrylic paints and go nuts on a piece of wood or some printer paper.
All of it matters. All of it will be enjoyed by, at the absolute minimum, at least one person. All of it has a place. Kill the idea that only "professional" art has value.

mostly becus i leaned to animate on hellapp in class hiding my phone from the teacher (no sound or copyn paste or putting in pictures cant zoom in or out 1 layer like 4 brushes with spesific colors for each brush and size presets that i cant change tiny eraser and then you cant even turn the stuff that you make into gifs or videos or anything rip the little game animatic i actually managed to animate the whole 4 minute long song almost on beat and am still super proud of that) and now the moonbase alpha aeiou video is always playing somewhere in my brain!!
👍
lots of people talk like the app your using changes your whole skill and makes stuff like flipaclip more impressive then it is but is just practise and finding what works for you!! i like flipaclic becuz of the stuff that makes it "bad" and i made it "worse" by turning off canvas roation and line weight :3

I’m currently on a weight loss transformation journey and I’m struggling with trying to not see myself as the ugly fat friend. For as long as I can remember I’ve felt invisible. Do you have any tips on how to stop neglecting myself🥺
Steps for weight loss / body confidence level up: 1. Be prepared to put in the work, you have to really commit to yourself, to growing you, to pushing yourself to do one thing to move you forward every single day. Once you get into momentum, you will be on a role. 2. Mirror work, start looking in the mirror and learning to accept and love what you see, going from ‘I'm worthless' to ‘I love me, I'm amazing' might be too much of a big jump so spending time when you get out the shower repeating ‘i am learning to love the body i am in’ chant this to yourself. 3. Instead of focusing on all the weight you want to loose, break it down. Can you loose x amount in one week? Can I not eat x food for one day/ one week? Focus on small achievable goals and over time you'll succeed. Progress is defined by what you do each day. When you do any exercise/ movements, start whispering to yourself words of motivation. As your body moves, and you repeat / chant words of empowerment, they infiltrate your energy and subconscious mind. Words such as ‘i am enough, i am worthy’, as simple as they are, they have the power to heal your life. if you stuck with these two words, and literally repeated them as you move your body for even 5 mins you would start to mentally feel different. 4. Prayer, this is a big one - whoever you believe in God / Universe / Allah, ask for help in shifting these beliefs, pray for release of this negativity. The answers, the help will come, and it will show up in different ways, it might be through a new friend that inspires you, or a book that appears when you go to the story, a film you watch that changes your perspective. more on that.. 5. I recommend watching 'I am pretty’ with Rebel Wilson, she mentally shifts out of thinking she is fat and ugly to thinking she is the hottest thing on earth, and see how the universe responds to her. It's not about how you look it's about how you feel. 6. Remove all toxic / low vibe energy from your life, this could look like friends you don’t feel confident around, family members, social media accounts, literally remove everything that's not empowering you. Create space, distance yourself. Your level up will require time and effort, do you really want to waste precious energy hanging out with women who don’t elevate you? This is also about self respect. Stepping into the empowered woman that you are. Respect your time, your energy. Let go of anything and anyone that doesn’t mirror the life you want to live. 7. Create a vision. Write down the emotions you want to feel as the new you, how do you feel when you look in the mirror? When you walk down the street? When you are with your man? When you are with your friends? Get crystal clear on this vision. Focus on feeling these emotions in the now. Youtube guided visualisation meditations, learn about scripting as a tool to manifest, writing out your dreams. 8. Create time each morning for your level up. This doesn't have to be a task, this should be something special for you. Where you light your favourite candle, pull out your journal, write words of love to yourself, write your dreams, focus on your future vision, do a little mediation, sip your favourite hot drink, slowly. If you can’t do this each morning, maybe try a Sunday, at least once a week. Read books on people who have paved the path for you, women who have overcome weight-loss, body image struggles. Learn from these people and use them to inspire you. 9. Start watching empowering videos on youtube, find a mentor, Someone in real life or on social (this can be someone who's teachings resonate with you and you learn from them). 10. Literally draw a cup, with pen and paper and write all the things that fill you with joy. Focus your energy on these things in the cup. Your cup of love is your guidance. it can be anything, long baths, swimming, watching films on x topic, whatever you love, write it in your cup and start pouring your energy into those things. 11. Get familiar with the broken record that's replaying the same sentences in your mind over and over again ‘i'm worthless, i'm stupid, i'm unwanted, i'm fat, etc etc’ this is just an untrained mind running wild. You need to take back control. You need to see these thoughts for what they are, just thoughts. They are not the truth. Once you’re aware of your stories, the broken record, you’ll know when it starts playing without falling into the trap of the stories. 12. Mediation. I can’t preach enough about how much this will change your life, even 5 mins per day using an app or guided or just in silence. Meditation stills your mind with practise. And with the stillness, space is created. With this space you can start to notice throughout the day when old stories come up, it gives you the choice to choose better thoughts because your mind is no longer on auto pilot. 13. Find healers, reiki healers, inner child healers, therapists, eft (emotional freedom tapping). Attend sound baths, go to meditation centres. Completely drown yourself in self growth and level up. 14. Spend time in nature. Get out of your phone. Nature is going to help you reconnect to your true essence, nature is wild, it’s beautiful, its delicate, rugged, powerful, gentle. Mother nature is our healer on earth. Spending time on long walks, hikes, at the beach, even in the park with the phone in the pocket just looking up at the sky.

every single student in the world has likely procrastinated at some point - i know i definitely have! sometimes i think it can be quite helpful because means that you don't spend every minute of every day studying... but on the other hand, it can become very hard to beat. there are so many advice posts in the community on this topic but i thought that i would share my own tips!
disclaimer: everyone studies differently and these are my personal tips. they may not work for you but they can be a good starting point
What is Procrastination?
i found this little summary of procrastinating on the internet and thought it completely covered everything that i wanted to say on this point:
Procrastination is the habit of delaying an important task, usually by focusing on less urgent, more enjoyable, and easier activities instead. It is different from laziness, which is the unwillingness to act.
Procrastination can restrict your potential and undermine your career. It can also disrupt teamwork, reduce morale, and even lead to depression and job loss. So, it's crucial to take proactive steps to prevent it.
The first step to overcoming procrastination is to recognize that you're doing it. Then, identify the reasons behind your behavior and use appropriate strategies to manage and overcome it.
- How to Stop Procrastinating by Mindtools
so what is learnt from this is that:
procrastination is not being lazy
it is avoiding tasks by doing other easier tasks
it can have negative effects
you need to proactively take steps to avoid it
first, recognise the procrastinating then use strategies to break the cycle
Conventional Tips
these are the basic tips that are some of the most well-known strategies for ending procrastination and can be some of the most important steps!
1. get organised. tidy up your desk to study space because there is nothing worse than having to work in a place that is chaotic and mess. collect the information you need for the task, for example, notes you've made or a textbook.
2. to-do lists are your friend. a lot of people (including me) really struggle with timetables for studying because it can seem really structured and there is no flexibility or real allowance for things that may crop up during the day (your food takes longer to cook, you have to unexpectedly do a task around the house, you get a really bad headache and need to take a break). in my opinion, to-do lists help solve this problem! you can clearly see the tasks that you want to get done for the day but you don't have stressful time constraints. personally, i always use todoist to keep track of everything. to-do lists also make it easier to break tasks down
3. break the task down. one of the biggest cause of procrastination is having a huge task or project ahead of you because it seems really daunting and where on earth are you even going to start? so break it down *completely*. in your to-do list, don't just write ‘german homework’, write down even task that you need to do within it and be specific: for example ‘pg. 11 ex 4a, 4b and 4c’, ‘textbook listening task on pg. 47′ and ‘250-word essay on social media in Germany’. breaking it down makes the tasks seem more attainable and when you’ve done one and you can cross it off your list, it gives you a boost to keep going
4. eliminate distractions. this is a big one. even if you do all of the above, if you are constantly being distracted by things, you aren't going to get much done. try to find a place that is quiet enough that you can focus and you feel comfortable studying in. as well as this you need to think about what to do with your phone as the likelihood is that this will be the most distracting thing. you can simply turn it off, put on do not disturb, leave it in another room or use and app like forest (that last one is what i use and i don't know where i would be without it!)
5. use incentives. finishing a task is an achievement so treat it like one! before you study, decide on something that you will give yourself as a reward for doing it. this may be watching that new episode of your favourite programme or a tasty snack!
6. set timers. don't just launch yourself into a task, because that again can make it seem daunting and feel unending. rather, set a timer for a specific time because you’ll know that you just need to focus for that specific length of time and then you can go take a break and do something nice. for timing your study sessions, you could use the Pomodoro technique
7. allow for breaks (but try to avoid long ones). you are not a machine and as much as it would be great to be able to, you cant study for hours on end without giving your mind a break from focusing. so schedule in break time for yourself, particularly for times that you know your motivation dips, and do something nice. but be very careful that you don't accidentally slip back into procrastinating habits and keep breaks short. unless you are very disciplined it is unlikely that an hour-long break will stay just an hour.
8. know how you study but don’t be afraid to mix it up. everyone studies differently and so there are going to be some study methods that work better for some than others. so try to make sure that you are studying smart and that you aren't wasting your own time cause that can be incredibly unmotivating. HOWEVER, if there is anything that I’ve learnt from online school its that doing the same task all the time, every day is mind-numbingly boring and you just want to do anything else. so try to switch up what you are doing. if you usually just type notes from the textbook, maybe try doing it in a mindmap one week, or on flashcards, maybe do some practise questions to keep your mind engaged.
9. play music. now this one really depends on the person and how you study. some people need absolute silence and that is fine, but others need something to fill the silence or maybe cover up background noise (for example if you live in a busy household). try to pick music however that is not going to distract you - the key tips for this is to pick music without lyrics. this can be classical music, video game music, or general ‘chill’ music (there are so many playlists out there for chill studying music). i personally listen to Francesco Parrino religiously while studying because he does piano covers of pop songs, so i know the songs and enjoy them but there are no lyrics that can distract me
10. stay hydrated, well-rested and not hungry. this is part of eliminating distractions because if you are thirsty, you are going to be thinking about how you want a drink; if you are tired, you are going to be thinking about how tired you are; if you are hungry, you are going to be thinking about what you want for lunch or whatever. make sure you are hydrated, well-rested and not hungry so you can focus solely on your task or work.
Unconventional Tips
these are some slightly more unusual tips that you might not have seen before but that I've nevertheless found very useful!
1. video yourself or do a timelapse. this is something that I’ve only recently done because i saw a tip on this from someone during my quarantine challenge and thought that it would be cool to do. and it really works! i did it twice once when i was typing notes and a second time when i was handwriting notes and it really made me focus on what is as doing because the video put some pressure on me to look like i was properly studying - i could take a 5-minute break in the middle of my work to mess around with my pen, I just had to keep going so it really forces you to do the work. also watching the video when i was done made me really proud cause i had visual proof of how much i completed!
2. accept that some days you are going to get very little done. this may seem a little bit odd to put on a post that is meant to avoid getting nothing done but it’s actually a very important thing to remember. sometimes you need to take days off because otherwise you are going to burnout and some days you are just not going to be in the right mindset for studying because maybe you are exhausted after a big exam, or you have a headache or you feel unwell. you just need to accept it, draw a line under it, take time for yourself, and resolve yourself to work tomorrow once you feel a bit better. there is no shame in taking time to make sure you stay healthy. if you can, try to get your quickest, easiest task done so you have some sense of accomplishment.
3. ‘churn it out and f**k off’. this was my mum’s motto when she was studying and working in academia. and she recently told it to me when i was getting stressed about all the big tasks during online school. i am a perfectionist and i always want to hand in my very best work, put 100% into everything, but honestly that is impossible. some days you just need to get stuff done and if that isn't your very best then it doesn't matter too much because at least you got it done. and once you get it done you can just forget about it.
4. ask a friend or parent to check up on you. when you are studying by yourself it can be hard to motivate yourself because you know that no ones actually going to check whether you made those votes or did the reading, so ask a friend or someone you live with to check whether you've done the work or get them to read essays. you then get an external reason to study or do your tasks because you need to show them something.
5. rephrase how you think of tasks. when you think that ‘you need to do this task’ or ‘you have to get this done’, a lot of the time this causes unneeded stress and anxiety that is not going to help you at all. also it makes it seem like you are being forced to do something and human beings generally don't act great when they are forced to do something. so try to change your language when thinking about task into one that is more forgiving such as ‘i choose to do this project so that i can go meet my friends tomorrow’ and ‘i choose to read this book now because it will help me in the lecture next week’. this is probably the most difficult strategy on this list and it will take a lot of practice (i am certainly still practising it) but in the long term, it can help you change the way in which you view studying for the better.
✨✨✨
i hope this was helpful and that these tips will be useful, and perhaps you've discovered some new ones! if anyone has anything to add please feel free to reply or reblog with the advice <3

Hey! I'm quite new to following you, but I just wanna say thank you for doing god's work by creating this mod with such love and care 🙏. I'm literally writing/drawing my own self-insert OC with Joker to cope with the pain of not being able to romance him, but I look forward to living vicariously through my Shepard with this mod 😆. I wouldn't even know where to begin with creating something like this, so I am very appreciative of you doing it, and I love seeing the updates! ❤️
Hey, I feel you, as I’m sure is evident... I also write my own OC with Joker as a kind of coping mechanism/writing practise? I write it on an app on my phone just before I sleep, usually. In fact, a few of the nicer conversations in my fanfic (Tiger By My Side: World Rocking Edition) and this mod have come from conversations my OC and Joker have had in these private secret stories. Writing your favourite characters is a great way to explore them and your relationship to them! Do it, do it, do it! It also hones your skills as a creator. I look forward to having you live vicariously through this mod, too! I will of course do my best to write nice, comprehensive conversations with him, but if you can think of anything you’d want him and Shepard to talk about, and when/where... do let me know, I’m very much open to others’ ideas on all this too. As it stands, I know people tend to gel with my characterisation of him... I’m told I write a good Joker... but, my interpretations aren’t the only ones. Sometimes I feel a bit self conscious -- I want to write this for the whole community of people who enjoy him and I worry it’s going to be geared too much to what I want to see. But maybe what I want to see is the same as what others want to see? Oh my god, great, I’ve gone down the anxiety rabbit hole again over Jeff interpretations and I’m rambling. Thanks for following me, and your comments here really give me the will to keep pushin’ on through! Speaking of! Back to FaceFX hell... I want to get a minimum of four lines done today so I can start filming dailies...

say my name and say it twice (cotton candy skies)
17. also on AO3 chapter sixteen
The drawings go with Lotte’s above his desk, but there’s one he puts elsewhere. While most of the drawings are pinned up, between, above, and under Lotte’s, stuck with colourful pins and washi tape, there’s one he pins on the wall above his bedside table.
It’s a watercolour ladybug, and he’s barely stopped looking at it sincere he got home, barely stopped admiring the soft colours, the light pencil just barely visible under the paint. He puts it up first, before looking at it and smiling fondly, then moving to his desk with the folder.
As he carefully pins a drawing of a sunflower, he hears a knock at his door. It’s gentle, but firm, which tells him it’s Lotte. (His mom’s are gentle and tentative, usually accompanied by a soft “Jens?” and she waits before he calls for her to come in. His dad never knocked before throwing the door open.) The door opens slightly (he doesn’t look, but hears a creak), and he says “Come in,” before it opens all the way.
Lotte doesn’t say anything, just stands next to Jens’s desk as he kneels on it, watching as he pushes pins into the wall.
“You didn’t do those,” she states after a minute, when he puts up a sketch of a butterfly, under a butterfly by Lotte.
“No,” he says, pausing and leaning back to look at it, making sure it’s straight. “They’re Lucas’s.”
“The FaceTime guy?”
He chuckles softly, picking up the next one, a watercolour of treetops.
“Yeah, the FaceTime guy. He said he tried to go with your theme.”
She steps away, looking around as she processes what he said.
“He’s been here?”
Jens freezes, his eyes wide, his hand still, holding up the painting, and he grins.
“Yeah, he came once.” He turns and looks at her. “He said you’re very talented.”
She smiles after a second and he looks back to the wall, pushing a blue pin into the drawing.
“Why is this one over here?”
He turns and she’s sitting on his bed crisscross, pointing at the ladybug.
“It’s my favourite.”
He picks up the last one, a caterpillar on a leaf, and holds it up, unsure of where to place it.
“Why?”
“It’s pretty.” He sits back, kneeling, and looks at her again. “Makes me think of you.”
He smiles when she giggles after a second and then holds the drawing up again.
“Where do you think this one should go?” he asks, and she gets up, coming to stand next to him and looking.
She hums as she thinks and then points, under one of her flowers.
“Perfect.” He places it and holds up a pin. “You wanna do it?”
She climbs up next to him and carefully takes the pin, pushing it into the wall and smiling.
---
Jens can’t hear the sound of his skateboard over the pavement through his headphones blasting loud music, that could be too loud for eight in the morning. But it’s fine.
He skids to a stop outside the school, kicking the board up and catching it as he pulls his headphones down to hang around his neck and then reaches into his pocket to pause the music. There’s a text from Lucas that he hadn’t seen, didn’t feel the phone vibrate as he skated.
good luck at school, nerd see you tonight💕
Jens laughs to himself, skating his head as he tucks the board under his arm and adjusts his grip on the phone as he responds.
🥰🥰🥰
He tries to wipe his smile away as he puts his phone back, walking past groups of students standing in circles until he sees the guys, also standing in a circle.
“Hey,” he says as he hits Robbe gently with his skateboard, and they all shake his hand (after Robbe smacks him).
“Hey, Jens—”
“Hey, Moyo,” Jens interrupts, like he’s greeting him for the first time, turning to him and smiling as Moyo gives him a discontented look.
“I have a question.”
“I could have an answer.” There’s a pit in his stomach that he ignores. It grows there every time someone says something like that. I have a question, we have to talk, anything like that. Freaks him out.
Moyo fishes his phone out of his pocket and they all wait as he opens something on it.
“Is this you?”
He holds his phone up and there’s an Instagram post open, a slightly blurry of who is obviously Jens, in his orange jacket, his hands covering his face partially.
His heart drops for a second, knowing some kind of secret he has is being ripped away from him, but it raises and warms when he realises what he’s looking at: a photo of him taken by Lucas, a random snapshot as Jens pretended to beatbox, blurring from Jens’s movement and Lucas’s laughter.
Jens’s face softens as he reads the caption.
my dancer
“Yeah, that’s me.”
Robbe and Aaron lean over his shoulder, looking, and Moyo leaves it up for them to see.
“Whose account is that?” Aaron asks curiously and Moyo takes the phone back, looking at it.
“Mm… I’m not gonna tell you.”
For a few reasons.
“Come on, I know you know.”
“Yeah, I do know, but I’m not gonna tell you.”
Aaron frowns, dropping his shoulders.
“I’m not, so don’t even try with the puppy dog eyes,” Jens says, tapping the end of Aaron’s nose, and Aaron rolls his eyes, giving up.
“What’s the ‘my dancer’ thing mean?” Moyo asks, looking up from his phone.
“It’s an inside joke,” Jens says instinctively, the words out his mouth before he even processes the question.
And then he regrets it, as Moyo says, “Oh, okay,” and looks back at his phone, as Robbe tells Aaron that Sander is working on a (legal) mural at his school, a continuation of a conversation Jens had missed.
The pit is back, even though he knows it’s fine. That Moyo is texting someone (probably Noor, not that he’d admit it), not looking at the account, that Robbe and Aaron and talking about Sander, that none of them are thinking about the account or the caption anymore.
But it won’t go away, won’t stop eating away at him, and he can feel his pulse quicken, his breathing quicken, his hands shake in his pocket and his grip on the board shift repeatedly. The guys’ voices seem to get louder, along with the voices of all the other students scattered around them, the sound of doors slamming open and shut, the sound of birds singing, students dropping their backpacks, and laughing.
“It’s not a joke,” he bursts, looking at the guys, who stop and look at him, confused, their minds already far past the topic. He stares back, unsure of what to say, until Robbe breaks the silence.
“What?”
“The—The dancer thing,” he stammers, shoving his hand deeper into his pocket anxiously. “It’s not a joke. I’m a dancer.”
They stare at him blankly.
“But you were so shit during our hip hop video,” Moyo says.
“That’s—” Jens snorts, dropping his head and shoulders, easing up a bit. “That’s because it was hip hop.”
It’s quiet again as they look at him like they’re studying him.
“Waist, so—” Aaron says, stopping and closing his eyes, waving his hands. “You’re a dancer? But when? How?” He looks like his mind just exploded, and Jens laughs.
“Thursdays.”
And there it is.
They all react differently.
Aaron gasps, reaching out and grabbing Jens, pulling him back and forth as Jens laughs. Robbe’s jaw drops and he stares, seemingly processing what Jens just revealed. Moyo lets out a loud “Oh!” and points at him, looking from Jens to Robbe to Aaron to Jens.
“Wait, what the fuck?” Moyo exclaims, pushing Aaron out of the way and gripping Jens’s shoulders. “You dance on Thursdays?”
“I mean, I practise every day, but I go to the studio on Thursdays.”
“Today?” Robbe asks.
“I—Yeah, today. I go home and grab my stuff before going.”
“Can we come?” Aaron asks.
“No, Aaron.”
“Oh.”
“Wait. what kind of dance is it?” Moyo asks, pushing Jens like he’s offended.
“Ballet.”
They go quiet again.
“What the fuck is going on this morning?” Moyo says, and Jens laughs again, harder, feeling lighter, the relief of not keeping this secret lifting the weight of it off his shoulders.
“Okay, so you’re a ballerina,” Aaron states after they’ve all taken a second.
“Yes.”
“Show us.”
“I…”
He digs his phone out of his pocket and goes to the photos app, holding it so they can’t see as he scrolls through selfies taken with Lucas, candids of Lucas looking at his phone while sitting next to Jens, blurry pictures of Lucas covering his face.
“I don’t have any videos, but I…” he trails off again, hesitating. He looks around, at students talking and looking at their phones. He looks back at the guys, all looking at him expectantly.
“Okay,” he sighs, handing his skateboard to Robbe, who takes it, confused, and Jens drops his bag to the ground. He steps out into an open place, looking around again. No one’s looking except them.
So he does a double pirouette, the same he did for Lucas last week. But this time he doesn’t stumble. He lands it, looking at the guys, all three of their jaws dropped, and he laughs, quickly going back over to them.
“That was graceful as hell,” Aaron says as Jens grabs his bag from the ground, and Jens laughs harder.
“How long have you been doing ballet?” Robbe asks, handing him the skateboard.
“Since I was kid,” Jens says, shrugging.
“And this mystery Instagrammer has seen you dance?” Moyo asks.
Jens hums.
“Seen me do what I just did.” He avoids pronouns.
“And you’re not gonna tell us who it is,” Moyo says flatly.
“No. But can you tell me the username?” Jens asks, and Moyo holds his phone up again so Jens can see it.
He repeats it to himself as the bell rings, over and over and over until he can practically hear it, like someone is whispering it to him as he falls behind the guys, holding the skateboard against his chest so it doesn’t hit people as they bustle around him, through the front door.
As he walks down the hallway, he searches for the account, the letters still running through his mind.
There are two pictures of him.
And a drawing.
Which makes his heart fucking swell.
And the captions…
The caption on a photo of Jens’s back as he walks in the opposite direction (he remembers the exact night it was taken. It’s like he can’t forget anything when it comes to Lucas.) reads falling.
Jens smiles, setting his board under his chair and sitting.
He thinks he might be falling too.

How I write, format, and organise my notes.
thank you all for all of your various asks on studying and how I organise my notes :)
First, I usually letter out the title and write out the learning objectives, which my proffessors write out with each lecture. I’m handling alimentary parasitology right now, and it is VAST, so it helps having clear points to focus on in the sea of information - that way I’m kind of staying focused and not getting overwhelmed (eyes on the prize, people!)
Then, I collate all the information I’m going to be learning from. For this particular module, I’ve got lecture slides, my notes (made on OneNote) that I’ve written during lecture, and our prof made us a massive parasitology study guide with notes and cross-strand links (extra notes on pathogenesis and post mortems etc.). So at this point I’ve got a few windows open, lol.
This next step is super duper important, you gotta make yourself a fancy coffee. Might I suggest the viral dalgona coffe above? Before that was a thing I added some vanilla to my coffee. None of the other steps are going to work without the coffee, can’t stress this enough. (jk, don’t use this as inspiration to overly caffeinate. chammomile tea works just fine)
Now, sit down in a nice space with maybe some tunes if that’s your thing (am currently listening to a lot of Lana Del Rey, her entire unreleased catalog is amazing), or sometimes if I’m having a hard time focusing I love putting on ASMR background noise. Here’s a link to my favorite, it’s a hufflepuff theme one! Make sure your study space is a nice one. I’ve put a few examples of the study spaces I’ve had in the past above, but of course now maybe avoid coffee stores (thanks, COVID!) when this is all over though, enlist a friend and study with them at a cafe for a little switcheroo!
It’s time. To go through all the slides with your learning objectives in mind and get straight down to it. Feel like you’re gonna be a bit distracted by ye old phone? I suggest using Forest! It’s what I use, I’m using it as I make these notes and only have access to my camera app thanks to it.
Now is a good time to mention that I don’t make my first notes on a topic very succinct and focus more on understanding everything, these are quite detailed and are the first thing I refer to during revision when I have any questions or need a refresher. I’ll make a separate post on revision notes later, where I talk about flashcards etc. So these notes are just focused on getting it all on there.
The first thing a lot of people mention is my notes just seem packed. as you see in the photo above, you’ve got loads of arrows going off sentences. Some in pencil, some in colours... I do this to make sort of ‘branches’ of each main point/sentence. I find this to be a nice way to flow my thoughts and make it still sort of summary-like. Some people find this cluttered, I find it really visually stimulating.
Next: I get questions about my diagrams. The first thing about my drawings (examples in photos above) is that I only make them if I find them neccessary way to present the concepts in a way that both summarises them and makes them easier to understandl
As for figures, I insert them as necessary. This goes for tables and graphs (above) and I just use them to display trends in data (for example, what months certain parasites peak at). They can be time consuming to make so I try to be pretty practical about what graphs I include. Again, if they don’t add to my notes/help me understand stuff better or summarise concepts in a useful way!
I also LOVE using colours. I don’t colour code during all my notes, however. I only do it where it makes sense/is useful. For example, above on the lecture i revised recently regarding antibiotics, I’ve put drug names in one colour, their class in another colour, and any enzyme names in a different colour, making the facts easier for me to quickly refer back to :)
I’ll also practise on little revision summary boxes for when I’m reading back over my notes closer to exams- this is something I’ve been doing over the years where I leave a little space and write down key facts to remember in pencil. Closer to the exam I’ll erase them and try to rewrite them from memory to test myself! An example of what that looks like is above.
And finally, as you can see, above, sometimes at the end of my lecture notes I will do a little aside. This, by far, especiaIlly in college, is probably the thing I tell people who ask that surprises them the most: I literally almost never do further reading. This instance is one good example of when I deviate from that with an *ever so tiny* bit of further reading. I have an itnerest in goats and this makes me happy!! Since sheep and goats are both small ruminants and I’d just spent about forty minutes learning about sheep, I figured an extra fifteen minutes learning about the subtle differences in goats would be worth my time. I do this when birds come up, too :)
That’s all for this post! As always, send in your asks and I’ll happily turn them into posts if they’re long enough. Shout out to the anon who inspired this post and I’m always happy to answer any questions you guys have for me <3 as always, stay safe and stay lovely everyone :)

Hi! I'm doing my GCSEs next summer and I didn't end up doing any revision this summer, which I know isn't too much of an issue cause there's still time, but I'm wondering - if I do an hour's revision a night for about 4/5 nights a week where I make revision resources starting in September and start memorising things and doing past papers after my January mocks and increase nightly revision to 2/3 hours, will that be enough as long as I'm learning things well? Thanks :)
hi there! it’s great to hear from you and see that you’re being proactive with your studies over the summer, that mindset will get you really far in your education!
• in my opinion, it’s more so down to the amount of time you spend on revising a specific subject, rather than in general.
• it took me from the start of the year until around march to figure out a system that worked for me, so don’t be afraid to try new things (ulitmately, gcses are just preparation for a-levels and further education, however, they are important to allow you to move onto these pathways.
• in the end, i settled with this spreadsheet where i logged how much revision i would do per day, per subject. throughout the week, it would add it all up and tell me how far away from my goal i was, in real time. if you’re interested in trying this, here’s a video on how to make a copy of someone’s sheet.
• personally, i wouldn’t recommend starting proper revision right from the get go in september.
• instead, perhaps, spend the last one or two weeks of summer gathering your notes and making them into revision material (tip: scan them in with an app like notebloc or a usual printer-scanner and have them saved to your phone, for on-the-go revision).
• once school starts again, make sure you are very on top of making revision resources; when you get into the flow of your revision, condesing notes will seem like too much time spent.
• don’t be afraid to find other people’s mindmaps or flashcards online, if exams start drawing nearer and you’d be better off practising exam technique and knowledge application - but use these as a last resort.
• spend the months before mocks making a list of weak areas and pay extra attention to filling in those gaps in your knowledge, as you’ll want your main revision to be revisiting and consolidating already well-grasped concepts through practise papers.
• leave cracking down on this “main revision” until about a month before your mocks.
• then after mocks, take the next week to relax and reward yourself as it can be pretty stressful and exhausting if it’s your first taste of the exam experience!
• then over the next three weeks, or so, after that, review areas of weakness, that were made prevalent by the mock exam process. i’d also recommend making cover sheets for each paper with corrections, and a sticky note of topics to look back over.
• then slowly integrate the “main revision” until you get back into the swing of things.
these are all just my recommendations, feel free to bounce off this structure in order to find what works best for you. and remember, that on the scale of things, this is just a small (but necessary) stepping stone!
i hope this helps, my lovely! <3

Yahaba’s Type - Yahaba x Reader (Part 2 of 2)
[Masterlist]
[Part 1] [Part 2]
Summary:
Although Y/n was known as the clown friend, she wasn’t very comfortable around Yahaba. But that started to change when she saw him awkwardly practising his tosses by himself.
Match-up Request:
Hi I’m here for a match up request~ I’m tall (about 1.80) with blonde middle length hair & light brown eyes I’m a bit plump (usually thin but lately I’ve put on some weight) & sometimes I get self conscious about it 😬 been playing volleyball for 10 years as a middle blocker & my team’s ace ☺️ I also enjoy drawing a lot whenever I have free time Im THAT clown friend who gets really happy whenever people laugh with my jokes & I try to cheer people up that way whenever I see someone being down -🦋
So I found out that actually can save my answers as drafts (but only in the app??). *shrugs* Still learning how to use Tumblr.
Yahaba’s Type - Yahaba x Reader
Words: 2,066
Yahaba took a glance at the second floor before their practice match had started. As they warmed up for the match, he felt like his serves and sets were on point today. He was glad that his setting practice with Y/n had paid off. Chiaki and Y/n decided to watch their game today when Chiaki heard about it. She wanted to know what kind of teammates Kyotani had and wondered how they treated him. Y/n came along as well, which was probably the first time she had ever watched their games. But there were times when he wondered if she should have come.
The match started off with Yahaba’s serve. After bouncing the ball a couple of times, he threw the ball in front of him and ran up to it for his jump serve. But as it hit the top of the net, he held his breath until the volleyball had fallen onto the opponent’s side of the court. He let out a sigh of relief. But that didn’t last long because he heard Y/n shouting at the top of her lungs. “Kya~~! You’re so cool, Yahaba!”
Yahaba quickly turned his head up to her direction to see her laughing her head off. He got a bit annoyed at her since he knew she was just messing around. She wouldn’t have been impressed by his jump serve because she knew how to do one as well. Also, getting a point from a net serve already wasn’t very cool in itself. She was probably just mimicking Oikawa’s fan girls that he had told her about. Now he regretted ever telling her about them.
He gave her a smirk just before his next serve. He made sure she was still watching him. His next serve was a powerful one that he aimed at the other team’s spike-haired libero. When the libero missed his serve, he gave Y/n a smug grin. In response, she gave him a thumbs up and smiled.
“Well someone is showing off again,” said Kindaichi. Yahaba straightened up, remembering that he was in the middle of a match.
“What did you expect?” commented Kunimi. “He’s always been like that.”
As Yahaba got the ball back and walked back to the serving line, Y/n yelled out, “You’d better not miss your next serve!” She then said with a laugh, “Otherwise I’ll expose all of your secrets!”
Yahaba flinched at the thought. He didn’t want his team to know how much he had been practising outside of their usual practices.
“Since when have they been close?” Watari asked Kyotani. He just shrugged in response.
Yahaba didn’t expect them to notice that they were more comfortable with each other now. But with how Y/n was treating him, he shouldn’t have been surprised. The two of them had unintentionally continued to practise with each other for the past few months. He wasn’t planning on continuing their practices together, but he saw how much he had improved because of them.
When their opponents were able to get their first point, Seijoh got ready to receive their serve and attack. But when Yahaba set the ball to Kyotani, it was too high for him to reach. Luckily, Kunimi was somehow able to cover for him, even though it gave the other team a chance ball.
The next few times Yahaba tried to set, he kept on messing up. His fingers felt stiff. He didn’t know what was wrong because he had felt great during the warm up. Yahaba started to feel frustrated because he knew he was failing his team and they needed him. He was now their starting setter and captain. How were they supposed to beat Karasuno the next time around if he was already screwing up this match? He started to wonder if all of the extra practice with Y/n was useless.
Suddenly, he heard Y/n yell out a cheer. “Go, go, let’s go, let’s go, Dateko!”
The court was silent as they stared at the second floor to where Y/n stood. The Seijoh players were the first to break the silence with their laughter.
“What the heck is wrong with her?” said Kindaichi while he laughed hard enough for tears to come out of his eyes.
“Not only is she not cheering for us, but we’re not even playing against Dateko!” added Watari as he held his stomach while laughing.
Yahaba covered his laughter with his mouth. He also found it hilarious but he was equally embarrassed by her. She must have noticed that he was starting to panic. The rest of the team was doing well except for him
As the rest of the court continued to laugh, Y/n justified her actions by saying that their cheer was catchy. She even sang along when her own team played a match against them. She thought it was a lot better than their school’s cheer.
Yahaba then saw the referee remove the whistle from her mouth and turned to Y/n. “Y/n! If you disrupt this match again, you’ll be kicked out and you’ll have to run a hundred laps around the school during next practice!”
Y/n stood up straight and replied, “Yes, ma'am!” She pretended to zip her mouth to show that she had understood.
“I forgot that we got the girls’ team’s coach as the ref,” Kindaichi mentioned to Kunimi.
“If she’s the team’s captain, it must be pretty chaotic with her there,” added Kunimi.
Yahaba felt a bit of second-hand embarrassment from what Y/n just did. But because of her joke, he was able to calm down.
He realized how cold his fingers were. As he breathed on his hands, he remembered when he had jammed his fingers at the community center. Y/n had taken his hands and worried over them. He remembered how soft and warm her hands had been. So even though Yahaba had been trying to warm up his hands, he felt his cheeks heat up instead.
After the practice match had ended, Yahaba walked off the court and grabbed his water bottle for a drink. Y/n walked down from the second floor and the tall middle blocker from the other team approached her.
“We should go to the udon place that’s nearby,” stated the intimidating guy with a large build.
“Oh,” said Y/n with a nervous smile. “I’m not really interested.”
“But it’s really good!” he continued to insist.
Yahaba walked up to the guy who was pestering Y/n and tried to stare him down even though he was more than two meters tall. “She said she’s not interested,” Yahaba sternly told him. It’s not like he hadn’t dealt with troublesome people before. He didn’t want Y/n to deal with him by herself.
“What are you doing?” asked Y/n as she raised an eyebrow. “He’s a friend from junior high.” She continued to explain that a group of them were planning a reunion. She had said she wasn’t interested because she didn’t really like udon. She was more of a rice person.
“Ugh, this is so embarrassing,” Yahaba thought to himself.
“Sorry Hyakuzawa,” Y/n apologized with a smile. Kindaichi and Kunimi snickered at Yahaba for trying to be cool. He just told them to shut up.
As Yahaba walked away from the scene, Kyotani leaned on the wall with his arms crossed. “So what happened to having a type?” he asked with a smirk. He still held a grudge against him after all these months.
“Ugh, I don’t have one, okay?” Yahaba responded in frustration.
*****
After another night at the community center, Y/n plopped on her bed out of exhaustion. Her mom scolded her to at least take a shower. She did what she was told and got ready for bed. She checked her phone and saw a couple of texts from Yahaba.
Yahaba: Did you get home okay?
Yahaba: Since you’re not replying, I’ll just go sleep now. Night.
There was also another text that had appeared about an hour later.
Yahaba: I hope you dream of me
Y/n especially blushed at the last one. She didn’t remember him being a flirt. She knew there was no way he meant that. But a silly grin still formed on her mouth as she tried to lay on her bed to sleep. Unfortunately, it turned out that she was right. The next morning she saw one more text from him.
Yababa: I’m sorry! My sister texted that! Ignore that last one!
She knew that she should have known better. She sighed. It was harder to get over her growing crush on him.
She took a second look at the texts. She realized that he must have been exhausted for his sister to have the opportunity to use his phone. She wondered if they should cut down on their practices together.
Later at school, Y/n asked Chiaki if she was still free to come over for some home karaoke. She replied that she was.
“Can I come?” asked Kyotani.
Y/n had to blink a few times before she excitedly asked, “You want to sing?! Are you serious?!”
“No, I want to watch Chiaki sing.” Kyotani replied.
“Well that makes a lot more sense,” she laughed.
“Did you want to come?” Kyotani asked Yahaba.
“Why would I want to come?” asked Yahaba.
“You should come too! It’ll be fun!” said Y/n.
Kyotani didn’t really care was his response would be so he started to walk away with Chiaki. But Yahaba decided to tag along anyway.
When they arrived at Y/n’s house, her dad greeted Yabaha. But he flinched when Kyotani realized that he had been going to the community center.
“I guess your secret is out,” laughed Y/n. Since Kyotani knew her dad as well, he nodded to greet him.
The four of them sat in the living room. Kyotani and Chiaki sat on the large couch and Yahaba took the other end. Y/n set up the karaoke machine.
Chiaki sang a ballad beautifully. Y/n belted out a different song and sung badly on purpose. “Yay! I got a 68!” cheered Y/n. Her best friend found the whole thing hilarious like usual. Yahaba wondered why he came in the first place.
When Chiaki started to whistle to one of the songs, Y/n tried to whistle too. She couldn’t whistle at all. But she was being stubborn and kept trying anyway.
“You look stupid,” said Yahaba. “You’re getting your spit everywhere.” In response, she purposely got closer to him to tease him some more. “Ugh! Stop doing that!”
But Y/n still didn’t stop. It was kind of fun annoying him and the other two found it hilarious. Yahaba didn’t know how to make her stop. So he kissed her.
Y/n froze. She didn’t understand what had just happened. Yahaba smirked at her. But then his attempt to look cool failed him and his face became just as red as hers.
“W- What was that?!” Y/n freaked out. “Why would you do that?!” She tried to cover her blush with her hands. “You should only do that to someone you like!”
Yahaba looked away as he replied, “So it’s fine then.” He hid his face with his hands when Y/n realized that he admitted to liking her.
“B- But,” she continued to panic, “I’m not even your type.”
“I don’t have a type anymore,” he replied. “It’s just you.”
For once, Y/n was silent. She was trying to process the whole thing. She never expected Yahaba to like her back. She then smiled at the thought that he liked her enough for his type to be irrelevant over these past few months.
She took the seat beside him and inched a bit closer. The two still couldn’t make eye contact with each other. They both tried to steal a glance from each other, but when their eyes met, they quickly turned away again. Kyotani and Chiaki just stared at their awkwardness.
“Yahaba,” Y/n’s dad said in a deep voice. Y/n and Yahaba both flinched, not realizing that her dad was there. “I was wondering when you’d finally say something,” he said with a smirk.
*****
Extras that didn’t fit in the story:
Since Yahaba likes ikura don and Y/n likes rice dishes, they eat it all the time on dates.
Kyotani is actually pretty observant since he was conscious of his old teammates talking behind his back. But because he’s stubborn, reckless and just does his own thing anyway, it doesn’t really show through.
Chiaki is the cunning, protective type that looks innocent, but only Kyotani and Y/n know that.
I wanted Y/n to be the daughter of the guy from the community center who watched the Seijoh vs Karasuno match. But if she was, Y/n would have a (last) name. lol.
I hope you liked it! I actually had a hard time getting “clown funny” down. Other types of funny come more naturally to me (like sarcastic, teasing, and punny.) So I got some ideas from the webtoon Odd Girl Out with Mirae as a character model.
I also had a working name for Y/n because I write better that way. I might also post on fanfiction.net with the working name because they technically don’t allow reader-inserts. But I might not do it because it’s more work. lol. I actually initially started posting stories on FFN.
Check out my other stories too. :) I’m hoping to build a collection of them with all of the requests.

Seventeen ships as Sibling AU (JunHao version)
Mingyoozi version here
Another SVT ship as sibling au~!
Now is up to you to decide that you are either older than them both or younger than them both. I will recommend to be the youngest sibling but i will keep my headcanon list flexible as i can (*Mingyoozi I recommended to be middle sibling tho)
Blood related or related only by parent’s second marriage or only blood related to one of them is do able,
So not intentionally but I think linking the universe would be fun
Both of them work as idol (how lucky you are!!!)
Junhui will occasionally acts in web drama, while Minghao will occasionally make appearance in competition shows.
You are the only sibling who is not idol, Or,
You are also an idol, soloist (Making the whole world jealous of you)
Bonus if you are related to Minghao and Junhui joining the family later both of them debut. Or in reverse, related to Junhui and Minghao joins later also will be fun.
Bonus if you are not Chinese, hearing them speaks in Chinese will spark you interest of learning the language. Cues in them two teaching you phrases of Chinese.
BUT if you are Chinese too, 3 of you speaking the language will leave others with their mouth open.
Favourite spot to eat/hang out if any of the sibling gets an award or achievement would be Mingyu’s family restaurant
Close to the Mingyoozi household because of
Jihoon as songcomposer and being same age as Junhui,
Minghao and Mingyu are close in terms their artistic sense and being same age.
Mingyu cooks spicy food too which Junhui loves alot, and Junhui will occasionally suggest new menu for the restaurant.
If you are not related to Jun
When you first joined the household, you are amazed at how good he look.
You thought he is very quiet and distant because he keep looking at his phone or gaming (Gaming partner is Wonwoo, long story short, Junhui got acquainted with Wonwoo while shooting another drama!)
Shooketh af at your brother’s career if you are not an idol.
Shooketh af if you already know who he is and you basically you interrogate your parent on how did they got to date with the superstar’s parent.
Basically having a identity crisis because both of your brothers are idol
Got frightened in the morning at Jun who got back from work and is sleeping on the sofa with his eyes half open.
Made a big mistake about him being distant and hard to get familiar with. Only to find out actually he is just being shy.
Once he got acquainted with you, be prepared for the awkward jokes that make you either roll you eyes or laugh to death.
Amazed at the level of spiciness in food he can handle. Start to wonder if chilli powder and chilli flakes are just like basil to him
Bonus if you can handle similar spiciness as Junhui. He will bring you out to some restaurant he found and a weird spicy eating compeition between you two will be held
Amazed at his acting skills and singing. Felt the world need to see him shine more.
If you are into gaming or tiktok or weird filter apps, you will get close to him quicker.
Amazed at his selca skills. Cues in you shyly approaching Junhui to teach you some of his tips.
Jun talks to you about the script of his web drama and ask you be the first hand audience. So you are basically spoiled with the storyline of the drama
Junhui being loud in his room practising his upcoming solo song.
Thinks Junhui imitating others is the cutest trait he has.
You are surprised that he can cook some basic meals. Since then both of you are seen helping out each other in the kitchen.
Might caught him stroking a cat around the neighbourhood. Also him meowing.
If you are related to Jun
If you are the youngest, you get alot of piggy backs and ride on his shoulder.
You damn proud because you do feel Junhui is talented and need to shine.
Already used to all his jokes and puns that he tries to execute on variety shows because he has been trying them out on you and Minghao
Also used to jump scare because he has been doing it since you are a kid.
Either you two share the same taste bud of being capable to eat really spicy food.
OR, even though related you cannot cope with spicy food at all. Making you bond with Minghao, the other sibling on healthier food more.
Your house fridge stores at least 10 packs of sausages because your brother loves it.
You used to be the happy kid, waiting for the sausages to be grilled by Junhui
He will be the big brother that brings you to the playground, watches you playing around while he just sitting/crouching there stroking a cat.
You are so used to him singing classic 80s and 90s song when he is showering in the bathroom.
You used to record it and post it social media and that is how Junhui got scouted.
If you are an idol too, Junhui giving you acting tips for your upcoming music video
Mobile gaming with Junhui and Wonwoo.
Very much used to Junhui’s idol friends coming over. Notable mention : Wonwoo, Yanan and Samuel
You siding at his friends because of his pranks and everyone is giving you the SOS glance. Junhui would never get mad at you, but just grab your shoulder and shakes you back and forth XD
Of course you will be his partner in crime with the pranks and jokes occasionally. Making you other sibling and Junhui’s friends shake their heads but also end up joining the dork party
If you are a student, cues in your friends goes in fangirl panic state because they never believed in you until Junhui and Minghao really appear in the house. (Or you never bring your friends home because you want to avoid scandal and trouble)To give a better idea for above, maybe a childhood friend who know about your superstar brother.
If you are not related to Minghao,
Also will feel this boy is cold and distant
Mostly him reading a book on a couch
Sharing your waiting to be read book list with Minghao
Bonus if Junhui your brother actually got acquainted with Minghao before both of your parents remarried. Making Junhui be the bridge of you and Minghao to get closer.
Since Junhui sometimes goes into prankster mode, you and Minghao face palm at him alot.
Cues in Minghao giving the dead fish eye look + deep sigh because being so done.
Bonus if this happens when you and Junhui go into dork mode TOGETHER
Cues in Minghao saying :Must be tough being Junhui’s sibling. He must have done those pranks on you lot.
Also Minghao saying : But he is a good brother
Only to know Minghao is the only child and he is very happy and excited to have siblings in his life.
Again, shooketh af at your brother’s career if you are not an idol.
Again, shooketh af if you already know who he is and you basically you interrogate your parent on how did they got to date with the superstar’s parent.
Again, basically having a identity crisis because both of your brothers are idol
Seeing them both practising and discussing dance moves makes you in awe at this new sibling
If you are an idol too, cues in you being hyper and hope Minghao teaches you B-boying.
If you are already adult, you will spend time drinking wine with Minghao talking about life and armchair philosophy
At first you are intimidated by Minghao’s fashion, but you will get used to it.
Minghao coordinating your fashion of course!
If you draw as well, you might go to art store with him often. Discussing what material to use for next project. Cues in Minghao shyly comes to you asking if he could borrow some art tools or paint.
If you are related to Minghao,
The very ZEN sibling, also the im so done sibling
But Minghao will still have his dorkiness
Minghao coordinating your fashion and you be the model for Minghao’s photography hobby
Wine drinking sibling of course!
Bonus if you cannot handle alcohol even though related thus you go to Junhui with coke and juice
Bonus if you dance too, Minghao and Junhui will ask you on dance moves
Knows about his waist problem so you will advice him to reduce harsh movements
If you draw as well, you might go to art store with him often. Discussing what material to use for next project
Sitting beside him while he draws
Framing up all his artworks and hangs them all at living room
You are so used to him being savage because you know he speaks the truth.
If you are not an idol
Visiting to their workplace is always an experience
Them being protective but at the same time they are ok at you getting to know more people in your life
Always cover your face with stickers if they upload selcas of you three to Instagram
If you are an idol too :
You are invincible. I mean you get acting advice from Junhui and dance advice from Minghao. And if you are close to the Mingyoozi household, you get first hand coaching by Jihoon tho. So ya, you are invincible.
Crowned as “the person whom i am jealous the most.” by netizens.
